Asymmetrical Memory

Asymmetrical memories,
Swirling among old photos,
Faded, unfamiliar but intimately known,
In part, uncertain like particles of history unique to the observer,
Black and white, sepia, Kodachrome,
Waterspots, sunspots, duplicates, and alternates,
Together what’s left of a life.

Performed 2-21-2026 by clarinetist Katie Repka and harpist Ljubica Sekulić as part of Baltimore Composers Forum’s Sound in Motion VII series

A gorgeous work! Tension and release: chordal choices are mind expanding – i have never heard that C7 #9 chord on a harp ! It works. It’s not flashy, but mysterious, compelling, and stays in my mind. I bet the dance was great !
